ALL ABOUT AN EVALUATION
Information for Parents
Prior to an evaluation, parents and teachers will be asked to complete a variety of questionnaires, depending on the reason for the evaluation. On the day of the appointment, we will review the questionnaires, I will gather additional information, and your child will have an opportunity to settle in. The evaluations typically take 3-4 hours (with breaks), depending on the age of the child. Testing may include intellectual, developmental, academic, social, emotional, language, and/or motor assessments. When you return to pick up your child, we will have a conference to discuss the findings. Older students take part in the conference. Approximately one week later, you will receive a comprehensive written report including background, testing results, interpretation, and recommendations.
*Due to the pandemic, the adult accompanying the child to the appointment must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Children over 6 must be vaccinated.

ABOUT ME
Since 2000, I've been providing specialized services to children in Hawaii who are experiencing developmental/learning differences. I also teach pediatrics as a professor of nursing. Children's well-being is my number one priority, and I work hard with families to ensure children's challenges are understood and they get the support they need to be successful.
Working with children was always the path I knew I wanted to follow. As a registered nurse and then as a pediatric nurse practitioner, I spent several years providing primary health care to children. Gravitating towards children with special needs, I went back to school for a doctoral degree in child development and family studies. Working at University Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., I evaluated children in both pediatric neurology and child development clinics.
